Hello! I'm Kumar Butler, and I'm passionate about the world of sound. I wear multiple hats as a sound engineer, music composer, and teacher.
My career in sound engineering began at a young age when I first got my hands on a Tascam Portastudio 414 when I was thirteen. Over the years, I honed my professional skills, learning the intricacies of recording, mixing, and mastering, and I've had the privilege of working on diverse projects, from recording local bands, editing and mixing tracks for renowned artists including Green Day, and recording and editing podcast content.
As an artist and music composer, I’ve been a part of a punk band and rock band as a teen. I’m currently in a band called The Seshen. I believe that music has the power to convey emotions, tell stories, and connect people across cultures and boundaries. Whether I'm crafting a score or a catchy tune, my goal is to create music that resonates with the listener or client on a deep level.
Teaching is another facet of my life that brings me immense joy. For six years I taught music production throughout the Bay Area including the Digital Media Academy at Stanford University. I now teach sound engineering and music production at Oakland School For The Arts. Sharing my knowledge and passion for sound engineering and music composition with aspiring musicians and sound enthusiasts is truly fulfilling. I believe in nurturing talent, helping students find their unique voice, and guiding them on their creative journeys.
